ODBDSLC261 Challenge: Metallic Color Challenge

Hi!  I was so excited yesterday to be able to get the Our Daily Bread Designs Die entitled, “Adore Him.”  My husband woke me up early and I couldn’t go back to sleep; so, I decided to play with the die and enter this week’s ODBDSLC261 Challenge.  It is a metallic color challenge.  In other words we are given five colors and have to use three or more as the focal point of our project.  These are the colors…

My Entry…

ODBDSLC261 Challenge Metallic Color

I love, love, love the way this card turned out.  I wasn’t too sure about the early espresso and always artichoke together, as I thought it would be too dark.  I used the Stampin’ Up! retired Lacey Brocade Embossing Folder on the always artichoke cardstock.  Then I cut the Our Daily Breaad Designs “Adore Him”  die on some Stampin’ Up! retired glitter paper that I had.  I think it is gold; but, it might be champagne.  I had to run it through the Big Shot three times!  It still took me a longgggggg time to extract the diecut from the glitter paper and get rid of all the little cutouts!  (Originally I planned to cut the die with our gold foil; but, realized that was one of the items I had to cut from my last order!).  I added the poinsettia’s because  I needed something else to finish the card.  These were made a couple years ago for a candle project I did.  They fit the red color and were even sprayed with Stampin’ Up! gold smooch spritz (retired)!  Perfect!  I was able to use up some left overs; AND, they were exactly what I needed.  Here is a close up…

I made the poinsettia’s with the (retired) 5 Petal Flower Punch, cherry cobbler cardstock, and always artichoke cardstock.  Three gold brads were added to the center for the stamens.  To finish everything off, I added some evergreen like “leaves” made with a border punch from Martha Stewart.  Those leaves are made with garden green cardstock.  I folded each petal in half to add more dimension to my flowers.

Now for the inside.  I did not want to leave it brown; and, did want to add a sentiment.  Looking through my stamps, I saw the “Reason for the Season Stamp Set,” from Stampin’ Up! and thought it would be perfect.  I stamped the top sentiment in our classic cherry cobbler.  For the bottom, I wanted to tie in the gold, so stamped the sentiment with a retired gold encore ink pad I had; and then, heat embossed it with clear embossing powder for the raised feel.  I also wanted it to be shiny. Each sentiment is in opposite corners for balance; but, turned to add interest.  Did I accomplish that?

Before you ask, I do plan to stamp a poinsettia from the “Reason for the Season Stamp Set” on the envelope.  There was just not time to do that before the deadline for the challenge.  I will probably make the envelope also.

I would love to see what you come up with using these colors!  Remember, my store is open 24/7 for any supplies you might need.   Don’t forget to leave me a comment below. Until our next visit, Happy Stampin’ and Scrappin’, Paula

  1. Paula, this is gorgeous!! The die cut looks fabulous and well worth the time that it took for you to create it with the shimmer paper 🙂 I love the red poinsettias as well- perfect choices for our color challenge this week! Thanks for playing along with us at Our Daily Bread Designs- hugs and have a blessed week!

  2. Thank you Julia. I really enjoyed making this card and love how it fell into place for me. Funny, as I would not normally have used brown, or the shimmer paper, for a Christmas Card. These challenges are great to stretch the imagination and comfort zone! Love it! Have a blessed week. Paula

  3. What a gorgeous card, Paula!! I just love the Adore Him in Sparkling Gold against the embossed green background with the 3D dimensional poinsettia. So festive and beautiful inside and out. Thanks for joining us at ODBD!
